"Boo, I'm a ghost!"

Eva chose to be ghost for trick-or-treating this year. Suzanna had the the costume idea and David implemented it with great success. Eva and Dad had lots of fun trick-or-treating around Seaside.

Eva's Cousin Chelan Hanu and Proud Uncle Jordan

Eva gained a cousin this summer. Her name is Chelan Hanu. Her brother is Torin and her Dad and Mama are Jordon (Suzanna's brother) and Katharine his bride. Eva visited Chelan, Torin, and her parents this Summer at their home in Spokane, Washington. Chelan is growing up fast and looking good. Thanks for the photos Jordan and Katharine!

Cold and Gray February brightened by Eva Calidris

We have all been busy and thus have not had the time to spend posting new pictures as often as I would like too. Suzanna is busy with teaching seventh grade life science--currently cell biology, including trips to the beach to collect diatoms for microscope work. David is keeping busy with the morning routine of getting Eva ready and taking her to preschool at the Cannon Beach Children's center 15 minutes away to the south. She really is enjoying her teachers, classmates, and learning and exploratory activities there. I am also keeping very busy with my "part-time" non-profit work as Coordinator for two independent Watershed Councils: Lower Nehalem Watershed Council and Necancium Watershed Council. See our upcoming event announcement for Bird Discovery Day 2008 at necanicumwatershed.org .

Eva is growing fast and eating well. She likes cucumber and grape tomatoes in her lunches. She is 35 inches tall now and around 30 pounds. Her hair has yet to be cut--how can we cut that beautiful hair. We send our love and good wishes to all our friends and family. Spring is around the corner. I have enjoyed enough hailstorms for a while....

Chanukah 5768

Happy Chanukah everyone!

We spent the first night at my parents' home in Portland after deciding to come into town from Seaside after over 48 hours without power and heat due to outages caused by the hurricane force winds that blasted the Pacific NW coast throughout the weekend and Monday night. The power has apparently come back on today in Seaside. We will be heading home Sunday. Suzanna was out of school all week due to the storm. Thankfully, we suffered no damage to our home. Those in Astoria and deeper in the floodplains faired far worse and out thoughts are with them and their families. I offered several times to volunteer at the Seaside Comm. Center to serve meals or whatever they needed, but they said they already had plenty of help. I did take an elderly neighbor who did not want to drive with all the downed trees and powerlines to an appointment at the Hospital. We saw several power poles that had been snapped off completely by the high sustained winds. The highest winds recorded for the storm that I have heard so far was 140 mph before the station anemometer broke. The station was just across the Columbia River from Astoria in the Washington Coast Range.
